Farms & Agriculture
Agriculture has always played a large role in Vermont’s economy and culture. As one of the most rural states in the country, the landscape is dotted with farmland, orchards and sugarbush. Many of these operations have been handed down across multiple generations while others are new. Thankfully, many farms are happy to connect with the public, engage with their communities and make sure we know where our food comes from.
You could call it agritourism, but it’s more like open agriculture for visitors and residents alike. Spend a romantic crisp fall day in an orchard picking apples or take the kids to Shelburne Farms to walk the trails and discover the children’s farmyard. And if you’ve never been maple sugaring (the means syrup), you;ve got to put it on your bucket list
