It's no secret that Burlington has always had a good thrift scene. The deeply environmental and sustainability-focused culture here has created a real desire & market for the secondhand. In Burlington, a 1970s suede purse is going to get you flooded with compliments while a brand new designer bag will get crickets. There are boutique spots doing intentional curation, a market that draws dealers from across New England, a third-floor collective with 65+ local artists and vendors, and enough Pine Street furniture hunting to fill an entire house. Whether you have two hours or a whole day, we pulled together every spot we could think of.

Okay so there's a lot to break down here. For your reading pleasure and shopping game plan, we broke it up by neighborhood!

Church Street and Downtown

The Vault Collective 145 Cherry Street | Daily 11am–7pm | $ – $$$

Carrying truly vintage clothing to antique pieces, it's incredibly well-organized and in a beautiful space which adds to the experience quite a bit. While there is a men's section, the women's section is significantly larger, and a key differentiator is the designated designer finds rack with high quality pieces from renowned fashion houses. You'll find statement pieces and wardrobe basics in the same visit, with everything organized mainly by vendor. We never leave here empty handed.

Old Gold 151 Cherry Street | Daily 12pm–6pm | $ – $$

An eclectic mix of genuinely groovy vintage finds and single-stitch graphic tees. If you need an outfit for a night out, this is your first stop. The accessories department is stocked with both vintage pieces and new sunglasses, so you can walk out fully put-together. (Personal highlight: a pair of electric purple overdyed 80s-style jeans that absolutely go hard.) Also on Etsy if you want to preview before you show up. @oldgoldvt

Billie Jean Vintage 152 Battery Street | Thu–Sat 11am–5pm, Sun 11am–4pm | $ – $$$

Woman-owned and well-curated. Billie Jean specializes in clothing from the 1920s through the 1990s, bold colors, standout jackets, accessories that are going to get comments. If you want something that photographs well and nobody else will show up wearing, start here. They have a loyal fanbase for good reason. billiejeanvintage.com

Fear and Cloathing 32 Church Street | Tue–Wed 11am–6pm, Thu–Sat 11am–9pm, Sun 11am–5pm | $ – $$

One of the newer shops on Church Street and already a staple. Fear and Cloathing is focused on streetwear, band tees, and sports jerseys, mostly 1980s through early 2000s. If you've been searching for a specific jersey or a vintage band shirt, this is a good bet. Open late on weekends. fearandcloathing.com | @fearandcloathingvt

Hunny Musturd 113 Church Street, 3rd Floor (above Leunig's) | $ – $$

Take the stairs! Hunny Musturd is a collective marketplace with over 65 local artists and vintage vendors, primarily POC, disabled, trans, and queer Vermont community members. They pride themselves on vintage clothing and original art made and curated by people who actually live here. It's a big space with a lot going on, which is the whole point. They've been at it for almost four years and represent a side of Burlington's creative community that deserves visibility. hunnymusturdshop.com | @hunny.musturd

Milk Moth 168 Archibald Street | $ – $$ | @milkmoth.andspider

Can't stop talking about this spot, it's in the coolest space. They took over an old synagogue and have transformed it into vintage dreams. The range is intentionally wide: Victorian, goth, alt, Y2K, fairy, preppy, leather, fur, outdoor. It's the kind of shop where you go in looking for one thing and leave holding something completely unexpected. Definitely high on the list I recommend to friends when they visit.

Battery Street Jeans 115 College Street | Mon/Wed–Sat 11am–6pm, Sun 11am–5pm, closed Tuesdays | $ – $$

Been here since 1991, and the free bins outside are a classic and help out the community. I have always found their men's section to be particularly strong. Faux furs, men's jackets, women's dresses from the 1960s onward. batterystjeans.com

Brat Cave Thrift 115 College Street | Thu–Sun 11am–6pm | $ – $$

Also in the 115 College Street building, which at this point is basically its own vintage destination, below Battery Street Jeans. Brat Cave is Y2K-inspired, feminine, fun, and stocked with clothing, accessories, and trinkets that lean early 2000s in the best way. @bratcavethrift

Anjou & The Little Pear 53 Main Street | Sat 10am–5pm, Sun 11am–3pm, weekdays by appointment | $$$

Over 3,000 square feet of antique, vintage, industrial, and mid-century modern furniture, art, and accessories. You'll leave motivated to rearrange your entire apartment. Fair warning: it's easy to fall hard for something here (the price tag will match that). Worth it anyway. @anjouvt

Dirt Chic 67 Main Street | Mon–Sat 10am–6pm, Sun 12pm–6pm | $ – $$

It feels like going through your older sister's closet: you're going to find something you want. Mostly women's clothing but also men's, kids', shoes, handbags, and wedding dresses. The brand range runs from Talbots to Gucci, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. dirtchicvt.com

Outdoor Gear Exchange (Basement) 135 Church Street | Mon–Sat 11am–7pm, Sun 10am–6pm | $ – $$$

Head into the basement of OGE for all of your used gear needs! You'll find last season's ski pants, softshells, packs, and boots that have been tested in the field, some still NWT. If your personal style involves any technical outdoor gear, OGE's consignment section is the move.

Pine Street and the South End

Give yourself two to three hours. These spots cluster well and Pine Street has good coffee.

Stay Gold Vintage 266 Pine Street | Fri–Sat 10am–3pm | $ – $$$

Nestled in the Soda Plant, this shop is definitely worth exploring post coffee at Haymaker Buns or Brio. Amazing curation of true vintage, worth planning around if you're doing a Saturday Pine Street run. @stay.gold.vintage

Rackk & Ruin 270 Pine Street, Floor 2 | Wed–Fri 11am–6pm, Sat 10am–5pm | $$ – $$$

Jewelry studio and vintage jewelry shop run by owner Molly Conant. Small inventory, but everything in there is there for a reason. rackkandruin.com

Project Object Vintage 28 Howard Street, Unit 106 | Thu–Fri 12pm–6pm, Sat 10am–5pm, Sun 11am–5pm | $ – $$$

Owner Samantha travels to source the best pieces and it shows. They do jean fittings, which sounds minor until you've spent hours trying to find vintage Levis that actually work on your body! Also sterling silver jewelry, tooled leather belts, and pieces with a timeless modern feel. If you can't make it to the South End, they have a booth at The Vault Collective on Cherry Street. povintage.com | @projectobject_vintage

Barge Canal Market 377 Pine Street | Mon–Sun 10am–5pm | $$ – $$$

The home find destination! It's a gorgeous space stocked with amazing furniture, rugs, wall art, and vintage clothing, all in a space that's fun to browse even when you're not buying. The location alone makes it worth the trip: in the summer, the Burlington Vintage Market sets up right outside on Saturdays, Speaking Volumes Books is around the corner, and you can easily turn the whole stretch into a full afternoon without trying. Plan for more time than you think you need. @bargecanalmarket

ReSOURCE 339 Pine Street | Tue/Thu/Fri/Sat 10am–5pm | $ – $$

Formerly Recycle North, same mission. This falls into the thrift area of secondhand shopping. It's a community nonprofit, proceeds go toward workforce development programs, and the inventory is great across furniture, clothing, housewares, and books. The strategy here is simple: go often and go early. It turns over constantly and the good stuff does not wait around.

ReSOURCE Building Materials 339 Pine Street area | $ – $$

Architectural salvage, doors, hardware, fixtures, sconces, knobs. Check here before you buy anything new for a renovation or home project. You'll find the same stuff for a fraction of the price and with actual history behind it.

St. Anthony's Thrift Shop 305 Flynn Avenue | Tue 10am–1pm, Thu 10am–4pm, 2nd Saturday of the month 10am–1pm (closed Saturdays in summer) | Cash only | $

Volunteer-run shop in the parish hall at the corner of Pine and Flynn. Cash only, and the steals are real. If you can get there during the limited hours you'll be glad you did.

The Burlington Vintage Market

Burlington Vintage Market 377 Pine Street, Barge Canal lot | Saturdays 9am–2pm, summer seasonal | $ – $$

Over 30 dealers from across New England every Saturday through the summer. The vendors rotate and many of them specialize in specific things, so if you're hunting for something in particular, just ask. They'll point you to whoever else at the market might have it. It's a hunt and that's the whole fun of it. Last visit: a vintage Ralph Lauren skirt for $10.

When summer ends, the Burlington Vintage Market moves inside for winter pop-ups at the University Mall in South Burlington. Be sure to check @burlingtonvintagemarket for dates.

South Burlington

Vintage Inspired Marketplace 10 Dorset Street, Suite 8B | Wed–Mon 10am–6pm, Sun 12pm–6pm, closed Tuesdays | $ – $$

Over 60 vendors, over 2,000 square feet, and a constantly rotating inventory. Vintage clothing, antique furniture, kitchenware, jewelry, nostalgic toys. You can spend hours in here and most people do. Worth the drive year-round, especially when the outdoor market isn't running. vintageinspiredmarketplace.com | @vintageinspiredvt

Replays 150 Dorset Street, Suite 265, South Burlington | Mon 10am–4pm, Tue–Sat 9:30am–5:30pm, closed Sundays | $ – $$

A nonprofit thrift store benefiting UVM Medical Center, run mostly by volunteers. You never know what you're going to get here, which is the whole appeal. Lots of women's clothing, costume jewelry, home goods, and glassware. Good for regular rotation finds if you're already in the South Burlington area.

The Hidden Gems

Shalom Shuk Marketplace of Peace Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, North Prospect Street | $

Not a daily storefront, which is exactly why most people miss it. Periodic sales with designer labels in great condition and prices that genuinely don't make sense. Proceeds go to local nonprofits. The Comme des Garçons cape for five dollars story is real. Get on their schedule.

And If You're Also a Record Person

Pure Pop Records 115 S Winooski Avenue | Mon–Sat 11am–6:30pm, Sun 11am–5:30pm | $ – $$

Basement record store with secondhand vinyl, tapes, and CDs. You go in for ten minutes and leave an hour later. Speaking Volumes on Pine Street also keeps a solid music section alongside the used books.

How to Make a Full Day of It

Start downtown on a Saturday morning. The Vault and Old Gold are next to each other on Cherry Street, Billie Jean is on Battery Street, and 115 College has Battery Street Jeans and Brat Cave stacked in the same building. Fear and Cloathing and Hunny Musturd are both on Church Street. That whole cluster is walkable.

Then head down to Pine Street. Stay Gold and Rackk & Ruin are at 266 and 270. Project Object is at 28 Howard. Barge Canal Market and ReSOURCE are both at 339 Pine. The Burlington Vintage Market runs in the lot right outside Barge Canal from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays, so hit that first before the good stuff disappears.

Anjou and Dirt Chic are both on Main Street if furniture or curated resale is on the list. Vintage Inspired Marketplace in South Burlington is worth the short drive, especially if you want to keep going after the Pine Street loop.

The scene rewards people who come back regularly. Inventory turns over, new stuff comes in, the best finds don't wait around.
