Local Flavor: Spring in Vermont marks the start of maple syrup season, with sugarbushes being readily tapped and the sap filling up buckets left & right. Sugarhouses across the state will produce around two million gallons of maple syrup this season. As there are many privately owned sugarhouses, there are also many open to the public where you can buy freshly tapped syrup. Vermont is also known for its local food market, specifically farm-to-table restaurants. In May, the farmers' market season kicks off, which is an excellent way to learn more about the agricultural scene and try some of the freshest food the state offers. These markets have a wide range of locally grown produce, artisanal cheeses, and other homemade goods.
