While many know Burlington for its lake views and welcoming community, it is also home to BETA Technologies, a growing force in electric aviation.
As the company continues to grow, talented professionals are relocating to the Queen City to help shape the future of electric aviation while building lives rooted in community, access to the outdoors, and meaningful work.
INNOVATION WITH A LONG-TERM VISION
BETA Technologies is developing electric aircraft designed to transport cargo, support medical needs, and eventually carry passengers. On November 4, 2025, the company raised over $1 billion in its U.S. initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange, marking a significant milestone as it continues advancing electric aviation.
Much of the technology is built in-house, allowing the team to test, refine, and adapt quickly. At the same time, BETA is developing a growing charging network to support electric aircraft nationwide, helping lay the groundwork for long-term adoption.
With strategic partnerships and continued investment in Vermont, BETA is entering a period of growth over the next five to ten years, including:
-
Advancing key certification milestones
-
Expanding production capacity in Vermont
-
Broadening into new aircraft markets
-
Growing infrastructure and long-term service operations
“BETA's hard at work building airplanes, and we are going to be hiring hundreds of people to do exactly that. We'll do it intentionally, focused on getting the right people with the right skillsets, and most importantly, people who care about each other and the planet we share,” Matt Riley, team member at BETA Technologies, said. “We're excited to be building an organization that will create advanced manufacturing and engineering jobs here in the Green Mountains. It's everyone from the airframe assemblers and the composite layup technicians to the quality inspectors and motors engineers.”
This next chapter is not only about innovation. It is about building advanced manufacturing and engineering careers in Vermont.
LIFE BEYOND THE HANGAR
While meaningful careers bring people to Burlington, the quality of life makes the move worthwhile.
Simon Newitt, Global Head of Sales and Support, relocated from Gothenburg, Sweden, with his family last fall.
“An opportunity to join the team at BETA was one that I simply could not walk away from,” he shared. After talking it through as a family, they decided to go all in.
Adjusting to a new country always comes with change, especially for children. “The biggest adjustment is always more with the kids. New schools, new friends, new everything in their worlds,” Simon said. “Fortunately, the schools have been so kind and considerate. We really could not have asked for more.”
With their dogs making the move as well, getting outside has been part of settling in. “Vermont has a stunning natural beauty, so it has been great getting out and about.”
Abby Gray relocated from Princeton, New Jersey, after following BETA’s growth for years.
“I was immediately attracted to the company’s mission and commitment to a unique culture and philosophy,” she said.
Beyond the workplace, Burlington quickly began to feel like home.
“I most value Burlington for its people and its culture around nature,” Abby shared. “It has a small-town feel with access to everything you need.”
From neighborhood coffee shops to walks along the Lake Champlain waterfront, both describe a community that feels welcoming and closely tied to the landscape around it.
A GROWING BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM
BETA’s presence is part of a larger story about innovation in Vermont.
Burlington is also home to Hula, a coworking campus and business hub where startups (like BETA), engineers, and established companies work side by side. Through The Fund at Hula, early-stage companies gain access to capital and mentorship, strengthening Vermont’s startup pipeline and supporting long-term business growth.
“The Fund at Hula has been a supporter of BETA Technologies from the beginning because it fits our dual mandate of job creation and economic development for the state of Vermont, as well as its positive mission in advancing alternative energy aviation,” said Robert Lair, Managing Partner. This growth is creating opportunity not only at BETA, but across Vermont’s greater community.

CONSIDERING A MOVE?
From electric aviation to emerging startups, Burlington offers meaningful career opportunities paired with a strong sense of place.
As BETA Technologies enters its next phase of growth, Burlington remains at the center of an expanding electric aviation industry and collaborative business community.
“The BETA mission is wild and exciting - this is what we think most folks connect with - the culture! Outside of that, we always like to highlight our benefits/perks like BETA Eats, BETA Health Clinic, free flight training, health insurance, and flexible time off, among many others. The bonus is our location and deep connection to VT and its communities!”
“Vermont is our home. Where we raise our children. Where we play in the mountains and on the lake. Where we live outside and engage in the remarkable community that is Vermont,” Riley said. “Hula proved that a tech hub is not only possible, but now vibrant.”
