A LITTLE RAIN CAN’T STOP YOUR FAMILY FROM HAVING A BLAST IN BURLINGTON
Chilly nights, sunny days, and the occasional rain shower are ideal conditions for maple producers; but the latter of the three can be infuriating to the spring traveler. For a state recognized as a top recreational destination, rain is the enemy—especially if you are traveling with kids. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a hotel room with rowdy kids and a gloomy view of Lake Champlain.
Fear not! Contrary to what you may think, there is plenty to do indoors when Mother Nature begins to act unfavorable here in the Lake Champlain region.
Here are eight things you and your family can do when it starts to rain:
1. ECHO, LEAHY CENTER FOR LAKE CHAMPLAIN
Encouraging scientific discovery and Lake Champlain preservation, ECHO is a hands-on, non-profit organization where your kids can meet all the unique critters of Lake Champlain and play and learn together at Champ Lane.
2. SHELBURNE MUSEUM
From the steamboat Ticonderoga and the Circus Building to Webby’s Art Studio and Owl Cottage Activity Center, there is no shortage of things to do for families at Shelburne Museum.
3. VERMONT COMEDY CLUB
Get ready to laugh because Vermont Comedy Club’s Good CleanFun! is family family-friendly improv show you won’t want to miss. Performing throughout the month, this improv troupe helps cause your families’ rainy day grumps away with a belly-laughing of a great time. Please check the Comedy Club website for hours and events.
4. LAKE CHAMPLAIN CHOCOLATES
Got a sweet tooth? Take a tour and taste some chocolate at Lake Champlain Chocolates. Learn all about how chocolate is made, see the Chocolate Sculptress at work, and indulge in some of Vermont’s finest treats.
5. VERMONT TEDDY BEAR FACTORY
Vermont Teddy Bears are meticulously-designed, handcrafted, and adorably cute, and with their factory tour, your family can see how all these warm, lovable best friends are made. Be sure to stop by their factory store on the way out to make your very own, customized bear friend!
6. BEN & JERRY’S FACTORY TOUR
There is nothing more Vermont than Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Learn how two Vermont guys went from getting picked last for kickball in gym class to creating an ice cream giant, watch the assembly line in action, and grab yourself a sample–or two. Ben & Jerry’s are currently reevaluating their tour processes.
7. GET AIR
If the kids need to burn off some pent-up energy, Get Air Trampoline Park is a great place to do it. With trampolines, foam pits, slack lines, and more, you’re little ones can hone all their ninja skills. If the adults get tired out and thirsty watching the kids go at it, GoodWater Brewery and the Burlington Beer Co. are right next door!
8. PETRA CLIFFS
The weather might prevent you from hiking a mountain, but Petra Cliffs Indoor Climbing Center makes sure you still get to test your strength and conquer your fear of heights. With climbing and bouldering for all ages and abilities, Petra Cliffs caters to every member of your family effortlessly.
