Burlington, Vermont is gearing up to be one of the premier locations worldwide for witnessing the solar eclipse of 2024. Burlington offers not only a stunning backdrop but also optimal viewing conditions for this rare celestial event. The solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking some or all of the Sun's light from reaching the Earth's surface. Depending on where you are located, you may experience a partial or total solar eclipse. In 2024, Burlington, VT will be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. Meaning, we will have a front row seat to the action!
On April 8th all of Northern Vermont will experience a total eclipse of the sun, make sure you are in the path of totality for the full experience! Given the opportunity to observe this natural event in such an idyllic setting is truly a once in a lifetime moment. After April 8th, the next Total Solar Eclipse will be on August 23rd, 2044 and the next time Vermont will be in the Path of Totality is 2106!

What will the weather be like in April during the Eclipse?
April is a highly unpredictable month in Vermont. We'd recommend bringing warm clothes in proper preparation. Additionally, during the Solar Eclipse, you can expect the temperature to drop anywhere from 5-10 degrees fahrenheit during the duration of the eclipse.
Will Burlington be completely dark during the Solar Eclipse
Not completely. Although we are located in the Path of Totality and will experience a Total Solar Eclipse, you can expect the sky to resemble dawn or dusk, as if the sun was in the midst of rising.
What is the proper way to view a Total Solar Eclipse?
Protecting your vision during the Total Solar Eclipse in Burlington is crucial. The Sun's brightness can harm your retinal cells, even with a quick glance. At Hello Burlington, we understand the significance of safety and will have Solar Eclipse Glasses throughout the city, ensuring you won't be without a safe way to view the eclipse. Are there any special transportation arrangements for the Eclipse day?
Burlington may experience increased traffic on the day of the Eclipse due to visitors. It's advisable to plan your transportation ahead of time and consider carpooling or using public transportation if available. Arrive early to secure parking, as popular viewing spots may fill up quickly. Parking garages can be found on Cherry Street, College Street, and Battery Street while other parking options are available at local parks and downtown along the Burlington Waterfront.
Will Solar Eclipse Glasses be available to Visitors?
Yes! Hotel properties across the region will be prepared with Eclipse Glasses as well as many of the local viewing sites throughout the region. If you are in downtown Burlington, we'd recommend checking out Obscura BTV and their list of Viewing Locations along the waterfront.

Where will be the best viewing areas for the Solar Eclipse?
There will be an abunandace of viewing locations in the Burlington area. From local parks like Waterfront Park, Battery Park, or Oakledge Park. To more rural areas outside of town. We'd highly recommend doing some research or exploring to find the perfect spot!
Will there be local events or festivals going on during the Solar Eclipse?
Yes there will be! We are currently working on providing an in-depth list of eclipse events. Check back soon for more information!
Will IPhone Photos be able to capture the Total Solar Eclipse?
Yes! Your IPhone or Smart Phone should be sufficient in capturing images of the Eclipse. Ensure your smartphone is ready for action by turning off the flash and adjusting the exposure settings to capture the eclipse's unique lighting conditions. A tripod or stable surface can help eliminate shaky shots.
Can I use a drone to capture aerial footage of the Eclipse?
No, flying drones during the Eclipse is generally discouraged due to safety concerns. Airspace may be restricted, and flying a drone during the event could pose a risk to others.

What time should I start preparing for the Eclipse?
To ensure you don't miss any of the eclipse phases, we recommend arriving at your chosen viewing location at least 30 minutes before the eclipse begins. This allows time for setup and getting settled in.
Is Burlington the only town in the Path of Totality?

Can I bring my boat to watch the Eclipse on?
We'd highly discourage bringing your boat, vessel, canoe or kayak to watch the Solar Eclipse with. In April there is a chance that the Boat Launches are locked-in with ice, not to mention the water temperature is still hovering just above freezing! For your safety and the safety of others, we'd highly discourage it!
Will Restaurants be open? Will I have to make a reservation?
